Info For Families
When it comes to speech and language delays, early intervention is crucial for future academic and social success, that is why we love partnering with area preschools to offer on-site speech and language screenings. Screenings occur once or twice a semester and are at a reduced cost for families. Oftentimes parents are curious about their child's speech and language abilities and want a professional opinion. 

Screenings will cover the following areas: articulation, language, stuttering, and voice quality. Speech disorders consist of difficulties with articulating sounds, producing fluent speech, or having a hoarse or raspy vocal quality. Language disorders are characterized by difficulty understanding language and/or expressing ideas. Because communication disorders interfere with educational progress and social emotional development, it is helpful if speech-language screenings be offered in educational settings.

After your child's screening, you'll receive a brief report within two weeks with their performance in each of these areas and any recommendations from the speech-language pathologist. If a speech evaluation is recommended, and you choose to partner with us, your child's evaluation and therapy sessions (if they qualify) will occur at their preschool during school hours. 

Signs Your Child May Need Speech Therapy

Age 2-3 Years:
  • Speech is understood less than 50% of the time by strangers
  • Difficulty understanding basic verbal requests: go/stop, in/on, up/down
  • Rarely uses two and three-word phrases (eg. "Big dog!" or "More snack please")
  • Difficulty following two-step requests (eg. Get the book and put it on the table)
Age 3-4 Years:
  • Speech is understood less than 75% of the time by strangers
  • Difficulty answering who, what, where, and why questions 
  • Difficulty using longer, more complex sentences to describe what he/she does at school/home
Age 4-5 Years:
  • Speech is understood less than 90% of the time by strangers
  • Difficulty paying attention to a short story and answering simple questions about it
  • Difficulty staying on topic while telling a story

Stuttering
  • Lasted for 6–12 months or more
  • Stutters late (after 3½ years old)
  • Stutters more often
  • Tenses up or struggles when talking​

We love partnering with preschools to offer speech and language screenings once a semester at a reduced cost for your families and added benefit for your school.

We provide the informational flyer, form, and social media posts for your school, all you need to do is provide a space for the screening, distribute informational flyers to your students, share to your social media channels/newsletters, and we'll handle the rest!
