Andrea Sloan, M.S., CCC-SLPAndrea Sloan is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist who received a her bachelors in Communication Disorders from Abilene Christian University and masters in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas.
She's been a speech-language pathologist for over 10 years and specializes in the assessment and treatment of preschool children with speech sound disorders & language disorders as well as troubleshooting unwanted behaviors in preschool classrooms, like hitting and biting, through behavior consulting. She's passionate about "the preschool years" and equipping children, families, and educators to have uplifting interactions with one another. Outside of office hours, she loves spending time with her husband and two kids. |
What's the connection between speech abilities and behavior?
Young children often times have limited verbal skills so they frequently rely on their behavior to communicate their wants and needs. Andrea partners with local preschools to provide a value-based vs. deficit based approach to behavior consulting for children displaying unwanted behaviors like hitting, biting, tantrums, etc. She believes all children have gifts and talents and celebrates those first when helping preschoolers. She also loves educating families and preschool teachers on ways to support young children's speech and behavior skills at her training and education events.

Experience
Andrea has over 10 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist. She also founded and owns Pediatric Behavior Solutions, a company that designs and sells picture schedules and charts for children. Before starting and owning her own businesses, Andrea was a speech-language pathologist at a PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) and also was the assistant director of a pediatric private therapy clinic. |
